Vesuvianite

 

Vesuvianite is a calcium magnesium iron aluminium silicate hydroxide mineral, found as a result of contact metamorphism on impure limestones, nepheline and syenites.

Vesuvianite is often cut and polished and used as an ornamental stone. Vesuvianite, also known as Idocrase, was first found on Mt. Vesuvius, Italy.
