Verdelite is a complex sodium lithium boro-aluminium silicate hydroxide in the Tourmaline group found in granites and granitic pegmatites, high temperature hydrothermal veins and metamorphic rocks. Tourmaline has 3 species - Dravite, Schorl and Elbaite; and has 14 varieties. Tourmalines are further named by their colours. Tourmalines are formed in all colours and are often multicoloured. Tourmalines are naturally pyroelectric and piezoelectric and some are pleochroic. Verdelite is a green gemmy variety of Elbaite Tourmaline, and fine crystal specimens are sought after by collectors. |
