Sunstone describes a red variety of Feldspar with the ‘sunstone’ sheen. Feldspars are a group of minerals that have similar structures and are complex in groupings and mineral composition. Sunstone is a sodium calcium aluminium silicate mineral, an Oligoclase Feldspar, with inclusions of red Hematite. Sunstone is characterised by an adularescence, chatoyant and schiller sheen. Sunstone is used as a gemstone in the jewellery trade. |
