Clinochlore is a magnesium iron aluminium silicate hydroxide mineral of the Chloride Group. Other members of the Chlorite Group are Baileychlore, Chamosite, Cookeite, Donbassite, Gonyerite, Nimite, Odinite, Orthochamosite, Pennantite, Ripidolite and Sudoite. Clinochlore forms from metamorphic and hydrothermal alterations of other iron and magnesium silicate minerals. Seraphinite (Serafina) is a trade name for Clinochlore and is found in Russia. Cut and polished Seraphinite makes attractive specimen pieces. |
