Sardonyx

Sardonyx is a variety of Chalcedony, which is a variety of microcrystalline fibrous Quartz. The colour is due to minute quantities of various elements; and the banding is due to the gradual cooling of the silica. Sardonyx is a variety name of opaque red to orange and white banded Agate. Specimens are cut and polished to create stunning examples.

Sardonyx is distinguished by evenly spaced red and white bands.
