Rhyolite is an igneous extrusive volcanic rock, containing around 70% silica. Typically, crystals are too small to see (aphanitic), and sometimes larger crystals surrounded by a fine grained or glassy matrix containing quartz or feldspar form (porphyritic). Rhyolite is often found with banding, making for a decorative ornamental stone which is sometimes used for jewellery. |
