Rhodonite is a manganese silicate mineral, often containing calcium, iron and magnesium. Rhodonite is found as a minor ore of manganese, typically formed by hydrothermal, metamorphic and sedimentary action. Rhodonite crystals are very rare, and sought by collectors. Rhodonite most often occurs in its distinctive red with black manganese oxide veining massive form. Rhodonite is often carved or cut into cabochons for the jewellery trades. |
