Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral. Rhodochrosite forms in hydrothermal veins associated with silver, copper and lead sulphides. Rhodochrosite is a common ore of manganese. 13th century Inca silver mines in Argentina contain stalagmites and stalactites formations of Rhodochrosite.

Splendid blood red Rhodochrosite crystal specimens are highly collectable.
