Peridot

Peridot is a magnesium iron silicate mineral, of the Olivine group. Olivine (also known as Chrysolite) is a common mineral found in lava rock, but the gem variety Peridot is rare. The striking green colour of Peridot is due to the quantity of ferrous iron present.

Peridot rarely crystallises in large specimens. The rarest crystals have been found in Meteorites.
