Rainbow Moonstone

 

Moonstone describes any variety of Feldspar with the ‘moonstone’ sheen. Feldspars are a group of minerals that have similar structures and are complex in groupings and mineral composition. Moonstone is a variety name for Adularia, a potassium aluminium silicate Orthoclase Feldspar, and also Sanidine. Moonstone Oligoclase is a sodium calcium aluminium silicate Feldspar.

Moonstone is characterised by an adularescence, chatoyant and schiller sheen. Moonstone is used as a gemstone in the jewellery trade, and is given many pseudo-names.

Rainbow Moonstone is generally white to clear and characterised by a strong bluish or light pinkish adularescent sheen.
