Pectolite is a sodium calcium silicate hydroxide mineral found in nepheline syenites, a hydrothermal mineral in cavities in basalts and diabases and in serpentinites and peridotites. Larimar is the trade name given to light blue Pectolite found in the Dominican Republic. Larimar can form interesting natural shapes, and rarely forms crystals. Larimar is used in the jewellery trade and is relatively expensive. Rough Pectolite should always be handled with care, wash hands after handling. |
