Satin Spar

 

Gypsum is a common hydrated calcium sulphate mineral. Varieties of Gypsum include Satin Spar (fibrous), Selenite (clear crystalline), Alabaster (fine grained) and Desert Rose (brown sand inclusions). Gypsum crystals can form interesting wavy formations.

Polished Satin Spar (often incorrectly named Selenite) displays chatoyancy (cat’s eye effect).

Satin Spar is easily scratched by finger nail.
