Desert Rose

 

Gypsum is a common hydrated calcium sulphate mineral. Varieties of Gypsum include Satin Spar (fibrous), Selenite (clear crystalline), Alabaster (fine grained) and Desert Rose (brown sand inclusions). Gypsum crystals can form interesting wavy formations.

Desert Rose are found in dry, desert conditions and arid areas. Sand may become trapped both on the inside and the outside of Gypsum crystals as they form. Fine Desert Rose specimens can be spectacular and sought after by collectors.
