Spessartine is a manganese aluminium silicate mineral of the Garnet Group. There are 6 named group species Almandine, Andradite, Grossular, Pyrope, Spessartine and Uvarovite. Within each of these groups are several named varieties. Spessartine is a orange variety of the species Spessartine.

Spessartine crystals make fine collectors specimens.
