Copal is a resinous substance in an intermediate stage of polymerization and hardening between more viscous resins and Amber. Amber is fossil resin or tree sap that although not mineralized, it is sometimes considered a gemstone. Dating Copal is almost impossible, and it typically ranges from several hundred to several thousand, and even thought to be up to a million years old. Copal ranges in colour from pale yellow, orange, red and white. Copal can contain many preserved insects, animals and plants and this increases the value. Amber is often substituted with Copal. |
