Citrine is the orange variety of Quartz, its colouration due to ferric iron impurities. Citrine is less common than Amethyst, and natural Citrine is relatively expensive. Unless stated otherwise, most commercially available Citrine is Amethyst, which has been artificially subjected to heat, and tends to be opaque. This process can be reversed by irradiating, and irradiation and heating can occur in nature. Natural Citrine makes for stunning jewellery pieces. |
