Chrysoprase is a green variety opaque Chalcedony, which is cryptocrystalline Quartz, and contains traces of nickel. Chrysoprase often occurs with brown nodules of Goethite.

Chrysoprase is the most sought after variety of Chalcedony, and due to its apple green gem like quality is the most expensive. Chrysoprase can often be confused with Jade, and is known as Australian Jade.
