Andalusite is an aluminium silicate mineral found in low pressure metamorhic rocks. Andalusite crystals vary from yellow brown through to green brown and pink brown. Andalusite crystals are often cut into gems when they display red or green colours that resembles a form of iridescence, although the colours are the result of strong pleochroism. Brown Andalusite containing inclusions of black carbonaceous material arranged in regular symmetrical crosses is known as Chiastolite. |
