Ametrine is the naturally occurring purple and orange variety of Quartz. Its colouration due to a balance of ferric iron and iron hydrate impurities, temperature and pressure during crystallisation. Ametrine is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine within the same crystal and is rare in its natural form and is sourced from Bolivia. Ametrine is also artificially formed from heat treating or irradiating Quartz or Amethyst. |
