Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, which is a variety of microcrystalline fibrous Quartz. The colour is due to minute quantities of various elements; and the banding is due to the gradual cooling of the silica. Specimens are cut and polished to create stunning examples. Fire Agate is distinguished by iridescent colours of red, orange, brown and gold and stunning examples are found in Mexico. |
